CHILDHOOD

Take me back to the place.
In my childhood where I could rest,
Upon the fields of grass,
Watching the heavens up above.
Dewdrops on the leaves seemed so sweet.
To linger on them, it would please.

Days were sunny, full of laughter.
Nights were starry in the winter.
To watch the trees in the glare,
I would just stand and stare.
Beautiful was the life of my childhood.
In between everybody’s care and brotherhood.

This life, I cherished the most.
Till one day, the child I had known had grown.
So he could be left alone
In this world of unknown.
This child who was never alone.
Was told to fight his battles all alone.

Now it seems a fantasy,
That it was so easy.
In my childhood, to get what I loved,
From those whom I was loved.

I look back and think.
I should provide a beautiful childhood,
To another of my breed.

If I had only one wish.
Choosing my childhood, I cannot resist.
